MOULTRIE — President’s Day might be the reason for low turn-out for the first day of early voting for the presidential primary Monday.

As of Tuesday morning, 53 people had voted, and Chief Registrar Paula McCullough said she had mailed out 52 ballots and had received nine back.

Georgians will vote on March 12 to help determine the presidential nominees for the Republican and Democratic parties.

Voters can cast their early ballot, in person, at the Colquitt County Courthouse Annex, on the second floor, in the Commissioners Meeting Room. Voting hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Residents will need to choose the political party ballot, either Republican or Democrat, that they want to vote on before they can cast their vote in the presidential primary election.

There will be two Saturday voting opportunities, February 24 and March 2, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., also at the Colquitt County Courthouse Annex in the Commissioners Meeting Room.

Anyone seeking a mail-in absentee ballot can already request one. Under state law, Jan. 27 was the first day County Registrar Paula McCullough’s office could start sending them out.

An application for an absentee ballot may be submitted by mail, email, fax, online statewide or a voter may complete the application in person at the registrar’s office in the Colquitt County Courthouse Annex, 101 East Central Avenue, Office 133.
