Colquitt boys golf team wins opener

ADEL – The Colquitt County boys golf team had two of the top three twosomes and won the Berrien Invitational held Monday at Circlestone Country Club in Adel.

The Packers won by two shots over Ware County.

The Colquitt County team of senior David Strange and sophomore Michael Hall finished first with a 70.

Freshmen Jake Rowell and Peyton Collins shot a 72 for third place.

The Packers have a young team this season with just two seniors, one junior, three sophomores and six freshmen.

Strange is one of those two seniors.

James Fagan is the other.

Harrison Brown is the lone junior.

The sophomores are Hall, Eddie Walden and Bailey Truitt.

In addition to Rowell and Collins, the other freshmen on the team are Reese Hood, Leighton Hood, Dawson Lane and Canyon Cook.

The Packers will compete next on Saturday, Feb. 24, when they travel to St. Marys to play in the Camden Classic at Osprey Cove Golf Club.

The Colquitt County boys will compete seven other times before the April 15, area tournament, which will be played at Moultrie’s Sunset County Club.

A Sectional tournament, set for May 6, also will be held at Sunset.

The Colquitt boys also will tee off on their home course on March 30, when they play host to the annual Packer Invitational.

The Class 7A state tournament is scheduled for May 20-21 at Sunset Hills Country Club in Carrollton.
