Packers basketball loses two more region games

MOULTRIE — With two games left in the regular reason, the Packers varsity basketball team are 4-18 overall, having lost all regions games.

In their last two regions games, Friday’s against Valdosta and Saturday’s against Lowndes, the Packers fought hard, but weren’t able to overtake either of the teams.

The game against Valdosta ended 86-56.

Cason Harden, with 20, and Jakari Byrd, with19, were the two highest scorers of the game.

Jae Lamar, Markese Wilson, Quan Kinsey, Zay Williams and Ja’shar Kinsey all scored as well.

Three of those athletes shot successful 3-point shots: Harden, Byrd and Williams.

Defensively, the Packers had a plethora of steals and rebounds.

Byrd, Ja’shar Kinsey, Harden, Wilson, Kinsey and Zy Alridge had a combined 18 rebounds throughout the game.

With the six steals were: Harden, Wilson, Lamar, Alridge and Kinsey.

“We have to work on getting better with those second-chance balls,” said head coach Andy Harden. “But, the boys are doing a better job communicating and encouraging each other.”

The final score in the game against Lowndes on Saturday was 50-31.

Though they didn’t win, seven different Packers had rebounds: Williams, Harden, Lamar, Wilson, Bryd, Ja’shar Kinsey and Quan Kinsey.

Lamar also had a stuff, stopping one of Lowndes basket attempts, and Willson had a successful steal.

Harden got one 3-point basket, which was the only one for the Packers, and five points total.

Byrd was the highest scorer with 10 and Kinsey was the second highest with eight.

Also scoring were: Lamar, Williams, and Ja’shar Kinsey.

“We will continue to work toward getting better,” said Harden. “We are going to finish the year out strong.”

The Packers will next face Tift in a home game on Tuesday. The JV team will a play. The first game begins at 4 p.m.
