MOULTRIE – The Colquitt County eighth-grade baseball team’s rally in the top of the sixth inning came up a run short in an 11-10 loss at Lowndes on Thursday.

The eighth-graders, who also dropped their season-opener, will take an 0-2 record into next Tuesday’s game at Tift County.

In the season-opening 9-2 loss to Hahira on Tuesday, January 30, at Packer Park, Colquitt managed just four hits, including two singles by Briar Littleton, who also drove in one of his team’s two runs.

Jackson Dorminey and Chase Enfinger also had base hits. Wesley Hall drove in the other run.

Littleton also was the Packers most-effective pitcher, throwing two innings in relief in which he gave up no hits and just one unearned run. He struck out three.

At Lowndes on Thursday, the Vikings scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead.

But the Packers tied the game in the top of the third.

Kade Hopper, who had singled, scored on a wild pitch and Enfinger singled in Dorminey, who had doubled.

Colquitt took the lead with a seven-run fourth inning.

Bradley Bryan led off the inning with a double and scored the go-ahead run on a Lowndes error.

Later in the inning, a Hopper two-run single raised the Packers lead to 6-2.

Hopper scored on a wild pitch and Littleton had an RBI single to extend the lead to 8-2. Littleton scored on a wild pitch and the Packers lead was 9-2.

But Lowndes scored nine runs in the bottom of the fifth to take an 11-9 lead.

The Packers pulled to within a run in the top of the sixth when Owen Avery singled in Enfinger, but that was as close as the Packers could get.

Dorminey gave the Packers 3.2 innings of scoreless relief, striking out seven and not walking a batter.

Colquitt broke out offensively with 11 hits.

Hopper led the Packers, going 3-for-3 and driving in two runs.

Littleton had two more hits, including a double, and drove in a run.

Dorminey and Bryan had doubles and Enfinger, Avery, Hall, Bryan and Easton Harlow each added singles.

Enfinger, Avery and Harlow also had RBIs.
