MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County wrestling team won four weight classes at Social Circle High School’s Redskin Rumble on Saturday and took a second-place finish.
Social Circle took first place with 260.5 points in the event that drew 16 teams.
The Packers had 190.5 points.
The tournament was the final tune-up for the Packers before they compete in the Region 1-7A traditional tournament, which is scheduled for Saturday at Lowndes.
Colquitt got first-place finishes from Randy Smith at 144; Logan Paradice at 150; Russell Flowers at 157; and Turk Daniels at 285.
Smith raised his record to 29-9 by pinning all three of his opponents: Warren Brooks of Hillgrove, Cale Prater of Social Circle and Cooper Martin of Lanier in the first-place match.
Paradice won his three matches by technical falls over Coen Buice of Hillgrove, Dane Kracht of Social Circle and, in the first-place match, over Buford’s Hudson Danielson.
It was just the second outing for Paradice, a state champion at 132 for the Packers in 2022 who did not wrestle for Colquitt County last year.
He is unbeaten since becoming eligible earlier in January and will take an 8-0 record into the region tournament.
Flowers won by a technical fall over Locust Grove’s Avery Spencer, took a 5-4 decision over Lanier’s Aden Yi and then won the weight class with a 14-10 decision over Buford’s Callum McCormack.
Defending state runner-up Daniels is now 40-3 after pinning Hilgrove’s Cam Harris, Lanier’s Mason Evans and Grissom, Ala.’s Sterling Threats.
Cruz Grijalva at 120 and Eric Henson at 132 each went 2-1 and took third-place finishes.
At 138, Billy Lawson fell in the championship round’s semifinal, but then won the third-place match by pinning Grissom’s Ian Reeks.
Cristobal Camarena was pinned in his first match at 113, but after a bye, he won his final three matches to finish fifth.
After falling in his quarterfinal match, Rafael King won his final three matches to take a fifth-place finish at 190.
Britton Marshall went 3-2 and was sixth at 126.
