Colquitt girls second in region swim meet

MOULTRIE — Led by a pair of individual first-place finishes, the Colquitt County girls swim team placed second in the Region 1-7A meet held Jan. 25 at South Georgia College in Douglas.
Richmond Hill won the boys, girls and overall region titles, but the Lady Packers outscored Valdosta, Camden County and Lowndes to finish second in the girls meet.
“I could not be more proud of my girls and boys teams,” Colquitt County swim coach Andy Chapura said. “We had tons of personal bests, lots of cut times. Both of the girls relays cut times.”
The 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay teams lowered the times they had turned in earlier in the season that had qualified them for the state swim meet.
The medley relay team includes Ellery McBryde, Hannah Huante, Hannah Bryant and Chloe Tillman.
The freestyle relay team is made up of Hannah Bryant, Chloe Tillman, Kathrine Springman and Hannah Huante.
Rylie Everson is the relay alternate.
Huante also has qualified for the state meet in the 100-yard butterfly.
The state meet will be held Saturday, Feb. 10, at Georgia Tech.
At the region meet, Bryant won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 27.28 and Huante took the gold medal in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:16.18.
The girls 200-yard freestyle relay team was second at the region meet.
Bryant took third place in the girls 100-yard backstroke.
Taking fourth-place finishes were McBryde in the girls 200-yard freestyle; Springman in the girls 200-yard individual medley; and Everson in the girls 500-yard freestyle.
Placing fifth at the region meet were Huante, in the 100-yard butterfly; Tillman, in the 50-yard freestyle; Ella Rose Briones, in the girls 500-yard freestyle; the girls 200-yard medley relay team; and the girls 400-yard freestyle relay team of Everson, Marina Perez, McBryde and Springman.
Taking sixth-place finishes were Noah Harden, in the boys 100-yard freestyle; Springman, in the girls 100-yard freestyle; and McBryde in the 100-yard backstroke.
Harden was seventh in the boys 50-yard freestyle and the girls 200-yard freestyle relay team of Briones, Yaidanis Fernandez, Perez and Everson was eighth.
