Mitchell places first in JV Packer Classic

MOULTRIE — Colquitt County’s Quintavious Mitchell won all three of his matches to take first place in the 113-pound weight class in the Junior Varsity Packer Classic held Jan. 5, at the high school.

Andy Sanchez, at 126; Tray Gomez, at 138; De’Montrae Reeves at 157; and Michael Braswell at 285, all took second-place finishes.

In the Lady Packer Classic, also held on Jan. 5, Colquitt County’s Ki’Myra Crawford and Marjory Sanchez also turned in second-place finishes.

At 125, Crawford pinned Marcum Haley of Northside-Warner Robins and Claire Little of Perry before dropping a decision to Jordan Herron of Chiles High in the first-place match.

Marjory Sanchez competed at 155 and won twice before falling to Valrie Medina of Lowndes in the first-place match and finished second.

Also at 125, Jennifer Tercero of the Lady Packers split her four matches. She was pinned by Paola Ortiz of Lincoln in the third-place match to finish fourth.

In the JV Packer Classic, Mitchell won decisions over Lincoln’s Davis Lane and Perry’s Josh Lower to reach the 113-pound first-place match, which he won when Thomas County Central’s Ean O’Neal was disqualified.

Andy Sanchez reached the first-place match at 126, where he dropped a decision to Elijah Schafer of Veterans.

Colquitt’s Cole Lane took third place when he won a decision over Valdosta’s Travis Sharp.

Gomez won three straight matches before falling to Tift County’s Jamari Johnson to finish second.

At 175, Chetanna Barber won his final match over Graydon Ituralde of Lowndes to place third.

Michael Braswell, at 285, won his first two matches before dropping a decision to Valdosta’s Simeon Roundtree to finish second.

Kevin Acosta, wrestling at 215, took a decision over Perry’s James Cannon to finish third.
