Colquitt girls swim team second in Lee Invitational

MOULTRIE — Led by second-place finishes turned in by Hannah Bryant and by two relay teams, the Colquitt County girls swim team finished second in the Lee County High School Invitational held Saturday, Jan. 6.
Tift County was first among the 14 girls teams that took part.

Other Region 1-7A girls teams that competed were Camden County, which was third, and Valdosta, which placed seventh.
Also competing were teams from Coffee, Thomasville, Lee County, Macon’s Academy for Classical Education (ACE), Northside-Columbus, Bainbridge, Thomas County Central, Pierce County, Cook and Glynn County Schools.
Bryant earned her silver medal in the 100-yard backstroke, with a time of 1:11.36.
She also placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle.
Bryant also was on the 200-yard freestyle relay team that took a second-place finish.
Also on the team were Kathrine Springman, Chloe Tillman and Hannah Huante.

The Lady Packers’ 400-yard freestyle relay team of Rylie Everson, Ella Rose Briones, Ellery McBryde and Springman also earned a silver medal.
Huante had a strong meet for the Lady Packers, finishing third in the 50-yard freestyle event and fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Springman took a bronze medal in the 200-yard freestyle and was seventh in the 50-yard freestyle.
Colquitt’s 200-yard medley relay team McBryde, Huante, Bryant and Tillman finished fourth.
McBryde was fifth in the 200-yard freestyle and 10th in the 100-yard freestyle.
Tillman had a seventh-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle and was 10th in the 50-yard freestyle.
Briones finished eighth in the 500-yard freestyle.
Also representing the Lady Packers in the meet were Marina Perez and Yaidanis Fernandez.
Colquitt had just two boys — Andrew Perdew and Jacob Medders — compete.
The Colquitt County swim teams will perform next on Saturday, Jan. 13, in Douglas.
The Region 1-7A meet is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 25.
