LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Hospital remembers support of the late Ann Friedlander
Published 2:38 pm Monday, January 8, 2024
It is with heaviest hearts and deepest sympathies that we mourn the passing of Ann Friedlander, a dear friend and cherished member of the Colquitt Regional family.
Ann’s unwavering commitment to our hospital spanned over five decades, beginning in 1971, when her husband, Herman, began a nine-year term on the Hospital Authority of Colquitt County. Their son, Kirk, later served on the Hospital Authority from 2004-2022, furthering the family’s legacy of service and commitment to healthcare excellence.
While it was her husband’s appointment to the Board that first got her involved with Colquitt Regional, Ann quickly became a faithful advocate and steadfast supporter of the hospital. Over the past 20 years, she played a pivotal role in the hospital’s physician recruitment efforts, often opening up her home and extending her warm hospitality to recruits visiting Southwest Georgia.
Not only was Ann a gracious host and friend to new members of our medical community, but she was also a philanthropist. As a founding pillar of the Colquitt Regional Medical Foundation, she devoted her time to supporting vital healthcare initiatives. In 2015, the family’s generosity was recognized with the naming of the Friedlander Boardroom at Colquitt Regional in Ann and Herman’s honor.
The Friedlander family’s commitment to service is also commemorated through the Foundation’s annual golf tournament. Since the tournament’s inception in 1992, it was one of Ann’s great honors to present the first-place team with the Herman Friedlander trophy in remembrance of her late husband’s dedication to Colquitt Regional.
I am eternally grateful for Ann’s loyalty to Colquitt County and for her unwavering support of our hospital. Her absence will be deeply felt, but her impact will continue to live on through the significant contributions she made in helping make Colquitt Regional the exceptional facility it is today.
Sincerely,
Jim Matney
President and CEO, Colquitt Regional Medical Center
