YMCA gymnastics team excels at Titletown Meet

VALDOSTA — The Moultrie MG’s gymnastics team competed in the Titletown Classic meet in Valdosta, GA the weekend of November 11.
The Xcel Bronze team began the weekend of competition.
“The Xcel Bronze team won first place out of five teams with a team score of 112.925 giving them an average score of 9.4 per event.
“These girls work really hard to make sure their form and skills are getting very little deduction. They are working on learning some new skills,” said Coach Dawn Harvell. Libby Parish in the SR B age division placed 1st in the AA with a 37.90 (personal best). She also had the highest AA for all ages and levels in that session. She placed 1st on vault, 9.5, tied for 1st on bars, 9.45 (personal best), 1st on beam, 9.525 (personal best and an MG Record), and 1st on floor, 9.425 (personal best).
Maggie Bozeman was also in the SR B age division, she tied for 2nd in the AA with a score of 37.125. She placed 4th on vault, 9.20, tied for 1st on bars, 9.45, 2nd on beam, 9.3, and 5th on floor, 9.175.
Sofia Molina in the SR A age division placed 1st in the AA with a score of 37.575. She placed 2nd on vault, 9.3, 1st on bars, 9.6, 2nd on beam, 9.275, and 1st on floor, 9.4.
Josie Bozeman, also in the SR A age division, placed 3rd in the AA with a score of 37.1 (personal best). She tied for 1st on vault, 9.4 (personal best), tied for 2nd on bars, 9.3 (personal best), 3rd on beam, 9.1 (personal best), and 3rd on floor, 9.3 (personal best).
Evelyn Strayer in the SR A age division placed 8th in the AA with a score of 33.275. She placed 5th on vault, 7.75, 6th on bars, 8.575, 8th on beam, 8.45 and 6th on floor, 8.5.
Leila Garner who was set to compete this weekend had to be scratched due to an ankle injury. She will be strong and ready to go by January.
The Xcel Silver Team competed in the next session and our team did well breaking some of their personal best scores especially on bars, floor and the AA.
“These girls are showing improvement at every meet. They won 2nd place with a team score of 112.125, which gave them an average score per event of 9.3. Their bars and floors have really gotten better and you could see it in their scores. We are expecting this group to go far,” said Coach Dawn Harvell.
Katie Poblete Morris in the JR B age division scored the team’s best AA with a 37.325 for 1st place. She placed 2nd on vault, 9.1, 3rd on bars, 9.3 (personal best), 1st on beam, 9.425 (personal best), and 1st on floor, 9.5 (personal best and MG Record).
Whitley Bozeman in the JR B age division placed 4th in the AA with a score of 36.1 (personal best). She placed 5th on vault, 8.65, tied for 4th on bars, 9.2 (personal best), 2nd on beam, 9.325, and 7th on floor, 8.925 (personal best). Jaceleigh Smithwick in the JR B age division placed 7th in the AA with a score of 35.7. She placed 2nd on vault, 9.1, tied for 4th on bars, 9.2 (personal best), 8th on beam, 8.3, and 4th on floor, 9.1.
Lexi Miller in the JR A age division placed 5th in the AA with a score of 36.175 (personal best). She placed 6th on vault, 9.0, tied for 6th on bars, 9.225 (personal best), tied for 6th on beam, 8.725, and 2nd on floor, 9.225 (personal best).
Olivia Eubanks in the JR A age division placed 6th in the AA with a score of 36.05. She placed 3rd on vault, 9.15, tied for 5th on bars, 9.25, tied for 6th on beam, 8.725, and 5th on floor, 8.925.
Katie Goble in the JR A age division placed 7th in the AA with a score of 35.85 (personal best). She placed 9th on vault, 8.75 (personal best), tied for 6th on bars, 9.225 (personal best), 5th on beam, 9.125 (personal best), and 7th on floor, 8.75 (personal best).
Alyssa Howell in the SR A age division placed 5th in the AA with a score of 36.25 (personal best). She placed 6th on vault, 8.8, 1st on bars, 9.45 (personal best), 5th on beam, 9.1, and tied for 4th on floor, 8.9 (personal best).
Melanie Lopez in the SR A age division placed 6th in the AA with a score of 36.125 (personal best). She placed 8th on vault, 8.55, tied for 2nd on bars, 9.375 (personal best), 3rd on beam, 9.275, and tied for 4th on floor, 8.925 (personal best).
Brantlee Majors in the SR A age division placed 8th in the AA with a score of 35.725. She placed 5th on vault, 9.0, 8th on bars, 9.075 (personal best), 6th on beam, 8.975, and 8th on floor, 8.675.
Allegra Porteus in the SR A age division placed 9th in the AA with a score of 35.3. She tied for 4th on vault, 9.05, 6th on bars, 9.175 (personal best), 10th on beam, 8.2, and 5th on floor, 8.875 (personal best).
Naomi De La Cruz in the SR B age division placed 1st in the AA with a score of 37.15. She placed 1st on vault, 9.5, 2nd on bars, 9.375, 5th on beam, 8.85, and 1st on floor, 9.425 (personal best).
The Xcel Gold Team was in the third session of the day. The team placed 3rd with a score of 106.95 which is an average score of 8.9.
“I saw a lot of improvement on vault and bars at this meet. They had also worked really hard on beam and you could see it at this meet. They only had one fall in their beam routines. I was extremely proud of them and the work they put in,” said Harvell.
Raley Merritt in the older age division was the team leader placing 2nd in the AA with a score of 35.85. She placed 1st on vault, 9.3 (personal best), 2nd on bars, 9.0, 4th on beam, 8.35 (personal best), and 2nd on floor, 9.2 (personal best).
Khloe Booth in the Middle age division placed 4th in the AA with a score of 35.45 (personal best). She placed 5th on vault, 8.65 (personal best), tied for 4th on bars, 9.0 (personal best), 3rd on beam, 8.975 (personal best), and tied for 6th on floor, 8.825.
Kinsley Kelley, also in the middle age division placed 8th in the AA with a score of 34.3 (personal best). She placed 6th on vault, 8.4 (personal best), 5th on bars, 8.75 (personal best), 5th on beam, 8.35, and 7th on floor, 8.8.
Ava Solanki in the Younger age division placed 5th in the AA with a score of 34.95. She tied for 5th on vault, 8.55 (personal best), 2nd on bars, 9.15, 6th on beam, 8.125, and tied for 4th on floor, 9.125 (personal best).
Julianne Carson in the Younger age division placed 6th in the AA with a score of 33.95 (personal best). She tied for 5th on vault, 8.55 (personal best), 6th on bars, 8.6 (personal best), 7th on beam, 8.0, and 5th on floor, 8.8.
Maddy Booth in the younger age division placed 7th in the AA with a score of 33.825. She placed 7th on vault, 8.15, tied for 3rd on bars, 8.9 (personal best), 4th on beam, 8.825, and 6th on floor, 7.95.
Iella Key who was suppose to compete this weekend had to pull out due to a concussion.
The Level 4 Team also competed in the third session of the day.
“The girls have been working to improve their scores and they did! They had 11 personal best scores and broke 2 MG Records. This level has to be exactly what the compulsory guide book says and sometimes we struggle with form. They are showing so much improvement, especially on vault and bars,” said Harvell.
Joselyn Juarez was the leader by having an AA score of 36.35 (personal best and MG Record) to take 1st in the Older age division. She tied for 2nd on vault, 9.15 (personal best), 4th on bars, 8.9 (personal best), 1st on beam, 9.35 (personal best), and tied for 2nd on floor, 8.95.
Kenya Poblete Morris in the Younger age division placed 2nd in the AA with a score of 34.675 (personal best). She placed 2nd on vault, 9.25 (personal best and MG Record), 4th on bars, 8.35 (personal best), tied for 2nd on beam, 8.35, and tied for 2nd on floor, 8.725.
Lylah Anderson in the Middle age division placed 4th in the AA with a score of 35.45 (personal best). She placed 6th on vault, 8.8 (personal best), 4th on bars, 8.75 (personal best), 2nd on beam, 8.9, and 1st on floor, 9.0 (personal best).
In the last session of the day was Xcel Platinum.
Ansley Key was in the ALL age division, she placed 5th in the AA with a score of 33.1. She placed 4th on vault, 8.8, 5th on bars, 7.9, 5th on beam, 7.5, and 4th on floor, 8.9.
“We will go back to the gym and work on the skills that need polishing before our next meet. We have til January to perfect them. I am looking forward to seeing her improvements,” said Harvell.
