Christopher Woods of the MPD said the driver was trying to race the driver of what turned out to be an unmarked police car.

“An unmarked police vehicle attempted to pull him over,” Woods said. “He failed to stop.”

The station was alerted and a marked car was sent to the scene.

“When I showed up and put on my lights he still didn’t pull over,” said Woods.

The driver, who is in his early 20s, proceeded to flee the scene in his Chevy Tahoe.

“We followed him through the city,” said Woods. “He drove back to his residence, where he exited the vehicle and fled on foot.”

After a brief altercation the suspect was placed in handcuffs and taken to the Colquitt County Jail.

“He minorly injured several police officers,” said Woods. “We also found an open container during the search of the vehicle.”

The driver is being charged with: attempting to flee or elude police officers, reckless driving, open container of alcohol in vehicle, speeding and three counts of physical obstruction.
