Colquitt wrestling team wins Tift County Duals

- The Colquitt County middle school wrestling won the Thomas County Central Duals on Saturday in Thomasville.
MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County wrestling team welcomed a pair of teammates who had been competing on the Packers football team and went on to win the Tift County Duals held Saturday in Tifton.
The Packers won all five of their matches, taking wins over Bainbridge 61-18; Howard, 84-0; Lee County, 39-27; Tift County, 45-24; and Lowndes 49-28.

Ja’Quavian “Turk” Daniels and Trenton Dunbar were on the mats for the first time since the football Packers were eliminated in the state quarterfinals by Milton on Nov. 24.
Daniels, the state runner-up at 285 pounds last season, competed against Bainbridge, Howard and Tift County and pinned his opponent in each match.
Dunbar wrestled three times and got a pin against Howard.
Junior Randy Smith had a strong tournament getting pins against Bainbridge, Howard and Lee County at 157 and taking a decision against Tift County at 150.
Sophomore Cristobal Camarena also won four times. Wrestling at 120 pounds, he had pins against Bainbridge, Lee County and Tift County and took a 16-4 decision against Lowndes.
Veteran junior Russell Flowers wrestled three times at 165 and pinned his opponents from Bainbridge, Tift County and Lowndes.

At 138, senior Eric Henson got pins over Bainbridge, Howard, Tift County and Lowndes. He lost an 8-6 decision against Lee County.
Also on Saturday, the Colquitt County middle school wrestling team won the Thomas County Duals, winning all four of their matches.
The varsity Packers will compete next in the Danny Byron Memorial Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Osceola High School in Kissimmee, Fla.
The middle school team will compete next on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Tift County and also will be on the mats on Saturday in the Lee County tournament.
The junior varsity Packers will take part in the Hornet Scramble on Friday in Adel.
The Lady Packers will compete in the Hornet Classic on Saturday in Adel.
