MOULTRIE — During this holiday season, the spirit of giving is alive and well in Colquitt County with several organizations hosting donation drives.
There are a few toy drives going on, right now, hosted by different agencies in the community including the Moultrie Police Department, Hero House, and the Moultrie Fire Department, in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Moultrie.
The Moultrie Police Department’s annual Cram the Cruiser toy drive is another opportunity to support families and children that are served by DFCS.
The event is in its sixth year and has had much success in getting cruisers crammed with donated toys ahead of the Christmas holidays. You can drop off your gifts from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Moultrie Police Department, Monday — Friday, from now through Dec. 20.
A cruiser will be parked different places throughout Moultrie for toy drop-off throughout the holiday season. For more information, call the MPD at (229) 985-3131.
Hero House’s Fourth Annual Holiday of Heroes Toy Drive allows volunteers from the community to “adopt” a child and help provide them with gifts and toys for Christmas. The ages range from 3 to 17 years old and the drive will end Dec. 8. An individual or business that would like to adopt a child, can call Hero House at (229) 890-5549 or Executive Director Regina Dismuke at (229) 891-1702.
The Moultrie Fire Department, in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Moultrie, is hosting Stuff the Truck. They will be accepting donations of toys and gift cards until Dec. 11. The items can be dropped off at Moultrie Fire Department Stations One, Two and Three. For more information, call (229) 985-1805.
There are also a couple of coat drives being hosted this holiday season by businesses and organizations.
All Directions Transportation Service is hosting a winter coat drive through Dec. 8. The coats will be distributed to local schools. Donations can be dropped-off at ADTS, 1321 Main St., Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; 50 Yard Line, 203 W. Central Ave., Wednesday only from 3 to 9 p.m.; and Irene’s Kitchen, Sixth Street N.W., Monday-Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Kiwanis Club of Moultrie’s Annual Coats for Kids Drive goes through tomorrow with drop-off locations at Carriage Cleaners, Modern Cleaners, and the Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Authority at 1020 Fourth St. S.W. For more information or to have a coat picked up contact Keith Brown at (229) 616-4211 or Bradley Grantham at (229) 785-1303.
Sutton System Sales, Inc. is having a Christmas Food Drive for the Colquitt County Food Bank. They are looking for unexpired and non-perishable food only.
