MOULTRIE — Colquitt County wide receiver Ny Carr and tight end Landen Thomas will join Packers head coach Sean Calhoun next month in San Antonio, Texas, for the 2024 All-American Bowl.
Carr and Thomas took part in a virtual jersey presentation on Friday at the Colquitt County High weight room as they join a group of 100 seniors selected to play in the game, scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at The Alamodome.
The game will be televised by NBC Sports.
For the second year in a row, Calhoun will be on the East team’s staff. The team’s head coach will be Buford’s Bryant Appling.
Carr and Thomas have been four-year contributors to the Packers football program, which has gone 42-6 over that span.
Over the last two years, Colquitt has posted a 25-2 record with berths in the state semifinal in 2022 and the state quarterfinal this year.
The two have combined to catch 287 passes and score 75 touchdowns.
Carr is the Packers all-time leader in career receiving yards with 3,195; yards per catch, 18.9; and career touchdown receptions, 44.
He also ran for a touchdown against Marietta in 2021.
Thomas, ranked as the nation’s top senior tight end recruit, has 118 career pass receptions, tying him with Ty Lee for fourth on the Packers all-time list.
He has caught 22 touchdown passes and run for eight more scores.
“They’ve earned it,” Packers offensive coordinator John Cooper said. “They have represented our school and community well.”
The All-American Bowl started in 2000 in Dallas and moved to San Antonio the next year. It has been played in The Alamodome since 2003.
The game is touted as “the most-watched and highest-attended high school sporting event.”
“These are the top recruits in the country,” Calhoun said of the rosters of the East and West teams.
Calhoun and the rest of the coaches of the two teams will report on Sunday, Dec. 31, with players scheduled to arrive the next day.
Georgia will be represented by 16 players, including 14 that will be on the East team roster.
In addition to Carr and Thomas, the East team will have quarterbacks Dylan Raiola of Buford and Air Noland of Langston Hughes; running back Dwight Phillips, Pebblebrook; wide receiver Zion Ragins, Jones County; offensive linemen Waltclaire Flynn, Grayson, and Daniel Calhoun, Walton; defensive linemen Dedrick Houston, Buford, Hevin Brown-Shuler, Pace Academy, and Justin Greene, Mountain View; linebacker Sammy Brown, Jefferson; and defensive backs KJ Bolden, Buford, and Jackson Hancock, Sequoyah.
Benedictine quarterback Luke Kromenhoek and Booker T. Washington defensive lineman Kameryn Fountain will play for the West team.
Calhoun said he is looking forward to being part of the All-American Bowl again.
Perhaps even more this year.
“It gives me another chance to be with them,” he said, gesturing to Carr and Thomas.
