MOULTRIE — Wecovery, an Addiction Recovery Support Center affiliate of Georgia Pines Community Service Board, is hosting its fourth annual Blanket Drive this holiday season, in association with the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD).

“Operation: Gotcha Covered” is a community-focused benevolence campaign based in Thomasville.

“Last year’s effort was tremendous, and we collected and distributed over 350 blankets in Thomasville,” explained J. Dan Bailey, program manager of Wecovery. “Our goal this year is a bold one. We aim to double or triple that number. We plan on distributing preferably new blankets to displaced and underserved individuals and families in all six of the counties Georgia Pines serves.”

Georgia Pines serves all counties in DBHDD’s Region 4: Thomas, Grady, Decatur, Colquitt, Seminole and Mitchell.

Georgia Pines provides an array of supports and services to individuals and families affected by mental illness, addictive diseases, and developmental disabilities. Georgia Pines’ Wecovery Peer Support Center promotes long-term recovery from substance use disorders by providing experienced peer support and advocating for self-directed care.

“Loneliness can devastate wellness. This is an opportunity to make a connection, to offer warmth, and to afford hope. Hope is the spark that ignites recovery,” Bailey said. “Georgia Pines promotes community and family functioning. When the individual believes they are a part of their community, the individual, the family, and the community benefit.”

Blankets will be distributed in Moultrie on Dec. 20 in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot starting at 4:30 p.m.

Blankets will be also distributed in Cairo, Donaldsonville, and Bainbridge on Dec. 19 and Dec. 20 and in Thomasville on Dec. 21, in partnership with The City of Thomasville’s “Feeding the Community” event being hosted at Pineland Baptist Church.

Until then, donations in the form of new blankets can be dropped off at any Georgia Pines location, or at any of the numerous donation boxes located locally.
