MOULTRIE — Five people were killed in a two-vehicle collision Thanksgiving day on Georgia Highway 111.
Colquitt County Coroner Verlyn Brock said the five were all riding in a van headed west toward Meigs about 200 yards west of Bay-Rocky Ford Road when the van collided head-on with a pickup truck that was headed east toward Moultrie.
The accident happened after 3 p.m. As of about 7:45 p.m., Brock said he still did not have the victims’ names. In an email just after 8 p.m., the Georgia State Patrol did not say they lacked the names, but said they were not being released as officials worked to notify family members.
The GSP said there were nine occupants in the Ford van. Five were killed on impact, and the other four were taken by helicopter to trauma centers in Thomasville and Tallahassee.
The occupant of the Dodge Ramp pickup truck was severely injured and was airlifted as well, the GSP said.
Brock said one of the deceased was a child believed to be about 3 years old.
