MOULTRIE — There are lots of activities coming up in November and December with the Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Authority (MCCPRA).

Some of what the Recreation Authority offers includes Golden Olympics participation, walking groups, movie events, board and card games, book clubs, arts and crafts, bingo, cooking, swimming, tennis/pickleball, basketball, softball, music and dancing. The event is free but to have an idea of how many folks to prepare for, the MCCPRA is asking people to call (229) 668-0028 to be added to the list.

Holiday Cookie Baking will take place on Saturday, Nov. 4, with two cookie baking classes. It will be the same type of cookie both times and it’s for students ages 10-14. The class will be held at the Ryce Center. The first class will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the second class from 1 to 4 p.m. Participants will be baking cut sugar cookies, chocolate chip and oatmeal cookies. The cost is $10 per person and space is limited.

Santa’s Mailbox will be at Main Street Park from Nov. 24 through Dec. 18. All letters will be answered. For specifics on what to include in the letter go to mccpra.com.

On Monday, Nov. 20, and Tuesday, Nov. 21, MCCPRA will offer a Mini Rec Camp while students are out for Thanksgiving week from 8 a.m. to noon each day. K-5th graders will have the opportunity to try several sports, play whole group games, enjoy a snack and engage in some challenges. The cost is $20 per student and pre-registration is required.

On Saturday, Dec. 9, children can swim with the Grinch in the Southwest Memorial Heated Pool starting at 10 a.m. This event is $5 per person and is open to children 4 years old and up. Activities of the day include underwater tree decorating, cookies and punch with the Grinch and arts and crafts. Again, pre-registration is required.

On Sunday, Dec. 10, Santa will be at Main Street Park from 3 to 5 p.m., for photo ops, hot chocolate and cookies and arts and crafts. This event is free and open to the public.

On Friday, Dec. 15, from 6 to 9 p.m., children 4 years old and up are invited to enjoy a spaghetti supper with Santa and spend the evening playing games, making crafts and enjoying being with friends. The cost is $5 per student and the registration deadline is Dec. 8.

MCCPRA is offering a Community Market starting in April 2024. The first season will be from April to the end of June and the second season will be August through the end of October. This will be a farmers and makers market and will be open to vendors of every kind as long as they produce what they are selling. No after market or kit crafts will be accepted. Applications will be available in January, but anyone interested in participating can reach out now to be added to the mailing list. Vendor fees do apply but the market itself will be free and open to the public.
