MOULTRIE – After fleeing authorities in a high-risk speed chase that went throughout the City of Moultrie, a 15-year-old driver crashed the vehicle after he jumped a curve, causing the car to nose-dive and disabling the front end.

“The car was initially reported stolen by the Albany Police Department on the 28th,” said criminal investigator Jesus Valdez with the Moultrie Police Department. “On the 30th [Monday] about midday we were notified by dispatch the vehicle was coming inbound.”

Colquitt County authorities signaled for the vehicle to pull over with their sirens but the driver did not comply.

“He began to flee from us in the Northeast portion of Moultrie,” said Valdez. “He ended up crashing near the Quality Inn.”

During the chase, the teenager showed no regard for traffic rules or the safety of others, Valdez said.

“At one point on Veterans Parkway he was driving into oncoming traffic,” said Valdez. “And he was driving at very reckless speeds.”

The juvenile also damaged a patrol vehicle after intentionally colliding with it to stop the officer from becoming parallel with him.

“The front right tire and passenger door of the officer’s patrol car sustained damage,” said Valdez. “The collision disabled the vehicle, but the officer wasn’t injured.”

It was shortly after hitting the cop car that the teenager jumped the curb and the stolen car was no longer drivable.

Attempting to flee on foot, the juvenile was apprehended quickly and a firearm was collected from the vehicle upon its search.

“We are currently still investigating the details of this incident,” said Valdez.

The teenager was taken into custody, and will be facing automobile theft charges from Albany Police Department as well as a plethora of traffic offenses from the Georgia State Patrol.

Due to his actions in Colquitt County, the juvenile will also be facing the following felony charges from the Moultrie Police Department: theft by receiving stolen property, fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement officers, interference with government property and possession of a firearm during commission to commit a crime.
