Boys freestyle team finishes first as Colquitt swim team opens

MOULTRIE — The boys 400-yard freestyle relay team took a first-place finish and the girls team placed second overall as Colquitt County opened its season on Saturday in the Tift County Swim Meet.

Andrew Perdew, John Brady Tillman, Jacob Medders and Noah Harden turned in a time of 4:07.43 to win the freestyle event, a first for the Packers, said coach Andy Chapura.

The same quartet finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle event with a 1:46.77.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Harden was sixth with a 59.25 and Perdew was eighth with a 1:00.05.

Medders was fourth in the 200-yard individual medley with a 2:43.58 and Perdew was seventh in the 50-yard freestyle with a 2:43.58 for the boys, who finished fifth in 10-team meet.

“I am very proud of the way the boys team is swimming,” Chapura said. “They are making new personal best times.”

The Lady Packers had a pair of second-place finishes in relay events.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Ellery McBride, Hannah Huante, Hannah Bryant and Chloe Tillman took the silver medal with a time of 2:07.89.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Tillman, Rylie Everson, Bryant and Huante finished second with a 1:55.64.

Huante took a pair of third-place individual finishes for the Colquitt County girls in the 100-yard freestyle, with a time of 1:00.26, and in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:17.44.

Bryant had a fourth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a 27.47 and Ella Rose Briones was fourth in the 500-yard freestyle witha 6:48.33.

The girls 400-yard freestyle relay team of Everson, Marina Perez, Briones and Katherine Springman was fourth with a 4:47.79.

Also for the Lady Packers, McBride was sixth in the 200-yard freestyle with a 2:37.15.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Springman was sixth with a 28:55 and Lynnsey Bell was eighth with a 29.64.

Also in the 100-yard freestyle, Bryant was fourth with a 1:00.71, and Springman was eighth with a 1:04.50.

Colquitt’s 200-yard freestyle relay team of McBride, Lanna Bell, Lynnsey Bell and Springman was sixth with a 2:03.05. “I was super impressed with how the girls swam,” Chapura said. “They were focused and driven to excel and it showed not only in dropped times, but in team performance as well.

“I can’t express how proud I am of both of my teams and my coaching staff and look forward to continued success over the season.”
