MOULTRIE — A 42-year-old male was arrested Tuesday night after a police chase that began when he refused to pull over for a traffic stop.
A Moultrie Police Department officer was conducting a routine traffic stop on the vehicle due to failure to obey the traffic control devices.
However, after the officer turned on his red and blue lights, the driver of the vehicle did not pull over but rather sped up to about 30 miles per hour. Officers pursued the vehicle from First Street Southwest to where it stopped in a residential neighborhood in the northwest portion of Moultrie.
During the chase the driver threw an unknown item from the car window, which was later discovered to be an open container of alcohol.
After officers were able to detain the driver he was transported to the Colquitt County jail for processing on three counts: failure to obey traffic control devices, fleeing and eluding police officers and driving with a suspended license.
