Colquitt County Middle school volleyball teams split matches against Cook Middle School

MOULTRIE – Serving four aces in a row, Kaylee Williamson got the Colquitt County Middle School non-region volleyball team the final points needed to win their match 2-0 against Cook Middle School on Tuesday afternoon at CA Gray Middle school.

The set scores were 25-16, 25-14.
After this victory, the non-region team is now 4-3 overall.
“I’m really proud of my sixth graders,” said head coach Megan Baker. “They played really well.”
In addition to Williamson, four other Lady Packers on the non-region team served aces: Ansley Eure, Marley Jo Wilson, Cora Calhoun and Emy Gay.
Serves weren’t the only aspect of the game the non-region team dominated the court in.
Offensively, the Lady Packers utilized the back bump, back set and spike to get the ball over the net, generally using either the first or second option, and many of the times succeeded in gaining an instant point.

Williamson was the sole player to have a successful spike, whereas both Casia Singletary and Eure were the primary players using the back set and back bump.
Defensively, Gay had a phenomenal chase and dive to keep the ball in play.
The region team came up just short in their match against Cook Middle School after going into a third set tie breaker and losing it 15-8.
The Lady Packers had won their first set 25-18, but lost the second 25-19.
“Something we need to work on is not to give up and get frustrated when you get down in points,” said Baker. “You can see it on their faces. But, it’s something to learn and they will.”
Opening the match with an ace serve for the Lady Packers was Ashton Robinson, and throughout the game, all six Lady Packers who had a service rotation got at least one ace.
Also serving their aces during the first set were Brooklyn Faucett, Dru McLeod, Elizabeth Bolin and Belen Romulo.
Bella Reagan served her two aces during the second set.
Though they weren’t able to pull out a victory, the Lady Packers region team did some phenomenal things on the court during their match.
As with the non-region team, the region team had one successful spike from McLeod which resulted in an instant point for the Lady Packers.
In addition to the spike, McLeod, along with Reagan and Robinson, all gained points for the Lady Packers through tips while Bolin and Faucett had successful back bumps that were unreturned.
Throughout the match, Robinson sacrificed herself several times with dives and chases to keep the ball in play, as did McLeod.
