MOULTRIE — Rush Propst’s tenure as the head football coach at a new academy in Alabama apparently is already over.
On January 2, Propst was introduced as the head coach at the new Ultimate Student Athletes Academy in Coosada, Ala. On Thursday, however, he released a statement saying he had not signed a contract with the school and “will no long consider a position with USA Academy.”
His statement also reads that when he was introduced as the head coach “while I believed we had reached agreement on a majority of terms, we had not and have not entered into an employment contract.”
USA Academy plans to attract top players from around the country and already has a 2020 schedule that includes four top-level opponents.
Propst coached Colquitt County from 2008-2018, posting a 119-35-0 record and winning state championships in 2014 and 2015.
His Packers teams were state runners-up in 2017 and 2018, but he was relieved of his position in early 2019 after an investigation by the Colquitt County school superintendent concluded he had violated the Georgia Code of Ethics for Educators. Propst’s case was sent to the state’s Professional Standards Commission, which has not released a ruling.
