- Illegal drugs and bottles of alcohol were recovered following a traffic stop Thursday morning. Brad Yates, 51, was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of crack cocaine.
MOULTRIE, Ga. – The Moultrie-Colquitt County Drug Enforcement Team made two recent drug arrests — one when a person smelling of marijuana showed up at the sheriff’s office.
Deputy Grant Brett was called to the lobby of the sheriff’s office Tuesday at around 9:22 p.m.
Investigator Justin Searcy of the DET said Cody Gignac, 29, smelled of marijuana. Brett made contact with Gignac, and a search of his person revealed two 2 milligram alprazolam wrapped in cellophane located in Gignac’s front pants pocket, Searcy said.
Gignac was charged with possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance.
Searcy was also involved in the other case, a traffic stop on Thursday that led to one arrest.
About 12:03 a.m. Thursday, Searcy and two other investigators with the DET were conducting a concentrated patrol when they fell behind a white vehicle that they said failed to maintain its lane.
The investigators conducted a traffic stop on Georgia Highway 133 near Boone’s Tire. When the officers made contact with the driver, he appeared to be impaired, Searcy said.
Searcy said a further investigation found crystal meth, crack cocaine, marijuana, a glass smoking device containing heavy residue and two other substances that were submitted to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Crime Lab in order to determine their nature.
The driver, identified as Brad Yates, 51, was charged with possession of methamphetamines and possession of crack cocaine. He may face further charges once results return from the GBI crime lab, Searcy said.
