That followed a 68-44 victory over Monroe High last Saturday in which Johnson had a career-high 25 points and Ellis scored 18.

The Lady Packers now have won three in a row since falling to Florida State 66-55 last Friday in the Tallahassee Thanksgiving Classic at Rickards High. Florida State is ranked No. 5 in its classification in Florida.

Colquitt’s girls now will be off until next Friday when they travel to Westlake High in Atlanta to play Douglass High in their first game in the Peach State Classic. Colquitt will meet either Griffin or Westlake the next day.

Lady Packers coach Rondesha Williams certainly hopes the short layoff will not cool either her team or its top two scorers.

Ellis, a senior who has committed to Troy, is averaging 22.3 points a game this season and with 961 career points, is aiming to be the next Lady Packer to score more than 1,000 in a career.

After scoring 45 points in the last two games, Johnson is now averaging 12 points a game.

Camille Singletary is quietly averaging 10 points over the first eight games of the season.

In the victory over Bainbridge, Colquitt County also got nine points from Audreyanna Rowland, eight from Singletary, four from Keyana Harper and a free throw from Kelsey Dawson.

Harper, who leads the Lady Packers in rebounding, had six boards against the Bearcats.

After playing in the Peach State Shootout, the Lady Packers will be off until the day after Christmas when the annual Vereen Rehabilitation Christmas Shootout begins with a game against Choctawatchee of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.

On Friday, Dec. 27, the Lady Packers will meet Brunswick and the following day will face Mitchell County. All three games will begin at 7 p.m.

The Colquitt County boys dropped Tuesday’s second game, falling to the Bearcats 61-57.

It was the second close loss to Bainbridge this season. The Bearcats won the first meeting, 44-41.

The Packers, trailing by five at the half, scored 25 points in the third quarter to take a 47-45 lead into the final eight minutes.

But the Bearcats outscored their hosts 16-10 in the final quarter.

The Packers top two scorers were players who have joined the team since the end of the football season.

Tyler Walker scored 16 to lead the Packers and he also pulled down six rebounds.

Montavious Ponder added 13 points.

Henry Daniels led the Packers on the boards with nine rebounds and chipped in eight points.

Di Williams had seven points; Omar Daniels had five; Lemeke Brockington scored four; and Aaron Long and Ty French each contributed two points.

Brockington, French and Omar Daniels also played with the football Packers this season.

The Packers will face Glynn Academy on Friday, December 20, and Statesboro the next day.
