Colquitt girls swimmers place second at Coffee

MOULTRIE — Led by first-place finishers turned in by Alison Bell and Madison Gonzales, the Colquitt County girls swim team placed second in the Coffee Trojan Invitational held last Saturday in Douglas.
Case Gregory finished third in the 100-yard backstroke and fourth in the 200-yard freestyle to earn all seven of the Colquitt County boys team’s points in the meet that also included teams from Coffee, Camden County, Tift County, St. Vincent’s Academy, Lee County, Jeff Davis, Ware County, Vidalia and Valdosta.
Coffee placed first in both the boys and girls events.
Bell earned her first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:17.54.
She also finished second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.01.
Gonzales won the 100-yard freestyle with a 1:02.22.
She placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle.
Bell and Gonzales joined Caroline Harrell and Caroline Chapura on the 200-yard medley relay team that took a second-place finish with a time of 2:10.37.
Bell, Gonzales, Chapura and Harrell also were on the 200-yard freestyle relay team that took a third-place finish.
Harrell finished third for the Lady Packers in the 100-yard backstroke and Chapura was fifth in the 100-yard freestyle.
The Colquitt County girls 400-yard freestyle relay team of Emily Rigsby, Rebecca Perez, Alejandra Padilla and Madison Edmondson turned in a fifth-place finish.
Seth Shellhouse and Gage Edmondson also competed for the Colquitt County boys team.
Colquitt County is scheduled to compete with Thomas County Central today in Thomasville.
