Seventh-grade girls raise record to 13-1

MOULTRIE – The Colquitt County seventh-grade basketball teams played for the fourth time in eight days Monday, with the girls going 4-0 over that stretch and the boys winning two of the four.

The Lady Packers defeated Newbern 53-14, Lowndes 41-14, and Coffee 41-23 at home, and won at Pine Grove by a score of 35-17 and have raised their record to 13-1.

The boys beat Newbern 28-18 and Lowndes 50-39 at home, but fell to Pine Grove 23-44 on the road and lost at home to Coffee, 20-31. For the young Lady Packers, Amareyia Knighton scored 80 points in the four contests.  Amira Walters scored 32, including 11 vs. Coffee.

NyAsia Harper scored 30 over the stretch, and added double-digit rebounds against Coffee. Trinity Daniels contributed 18 points in the four games, and also notched double-digit rebounds in the Coffee game.

Rickarian Yates contributed 11 points and Caylnn Singletary scored 10.  JaKira Williams and De’anna Blackwell contributed two points each in the Newbern game, and Williams added two in the Coffee game as well.

Jakari Byrd led the Packer boys in scoring with 48 points over the last four games.

Ramsey Dennis scored 20 points over the stretch, and Quay Lamar contributed 16. Jah’borris Fuller added 18 points, despite missing the Coffee game due to illness.  Sylvester Carolina combined for nine points over the four games, Cam Harden scored eight and Jasher Kinsey scored two in the Coffee game.

The seventh-grade teams travel to Hahira Thursday and close out the regular season at 8th Street on Monday.

The top four teams in the Southwest Georgia Athletic Conference will compete in a playoff, with games scheduled on December 19 and 21.

Host sites for the post-season games have yet to be determined.

The seveth-grade girls will be seeded either 1 or 2, depending on the results of the last week of regular-season competition, and the boys will claim either the third or fourth seed.

 The eighth-grade girls defeated Coffee in Douglas on Monday, 32-5, sweeping the two games from the Lady Trojans.

The Lady Packers won at the C.A. Gray Junior High gymnasium on Nov. 9, 43-13.

D’Zeriyah Polite led the Lady Packers with 13 points. Ameris Johnson added seven; Ranijah Boatwright had six; Jamya Moore had four and Nyleigh Knighton scored two.
