LIVE OAK, Fla. — A Live Oak man was arrested Monday after a graphic video showing him abusing a dog was posted online over the weekend.

A video was posted on Facebook on Sunday that showed 24-year-old Dalton Lee Fioravanti repeatedly striking a dog on a tie down or a leash on Nov. 28, according to a Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office report.

“I appreciate all the concerned citizens that received the video and then reported it to us,” Sheriff Sam St. John said. “Naturally, it’s disturbing to see him do this to that dog, especially chained up and defenseless.

“The old saying, ‘See something, say something.’ That’s what they did here. I just want to thank the outpouring of the community for letting us know what was taking place.”

The video shows the suspect continuing to kick, punch and strike the dog over and over again, according to the report, grabbing the leash and pulling dog back to him so he could hit the dog in the face and elsewhere.

The report states the suspect allegedly told authorities, “yeah, I got a little overboard with it I guess.”

Fioravanti was charged with causing cruel death, pain and suffering to an animal.

A friend of the suspect voluntarily placed the dog with the Suwannee County Animal Shelter on Nov. 28, and according to a SCSO release, the dog has been adopted into a new home.

“It’s a good ending for such a tragic way the beating occurred,” St. John added.
