CAIRO — The Grady County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a mysterious incident where a motorist was found bleeding from a gunshot wound.

Officers were dispatched to a single vehicle roll-over wreck along the 400 block of Bold Springs Road last Wednesday. When they arrived, they found driver Jamikel Romain on the ground outside of his vehicle.

“I’m not sure if he crawled out or if he was actually ejected out,” said sheriff’s investigator Chris Luckey.

As Romain was being transported to Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville, emergency responders removed his clothes and discovered that he had an open gunshot wound in his chest.

Authorities are unsure if the wound was self-inflicted or if Romain was shot by someone else. Investigators were unable to find any evidence of a gun anywhere near the site of the wreck.

“We don’t know if he was shot at another location and was trying to drive himself with (the wound),” Luckey said.

Making the matter more difficult for investigators is that Romain has remained unconscious since the incident. The Grady County resident remains in critical condition at Archbold.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Grady County Sheriff’s Office at 377-5200.

Georgia State Patrol was initially called to the scene as it was treated as a traffic incident.

A passerby had spotted Romain’s vehicle in a ditch and alerted authorities to its location just before 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27.

Luckey said it appeared as though the vehicle had rolled over multiple times.
