MOULTRIE, Ga. — Colquitt County Clerk of Superior Court Lynn Purvis’s recovery has been slow but steady, and to continue it, she may not be seeing her family for Thanksgiving, her son Josh said.

Lynn Purvis remains at Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville and was officially diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury, or TBI, Josh Purvis said.

According to Josh, his mother has been able to stand once with help and is recognizing her family more. However, almost all conversations veer toward her job as clerk.

“Even in her condition she is passionate about the Clerk’s Office and making sure the people of Colquitt County are taken care of,” Josh Purvis said.

But she may be taking an extended time away from Moultrie starting this week. Archbold’s doctors are looking to transfer her for inpatient TBI rehab.

Their first choice was Shepherds Center in Atlanta, but no beds are available there, Josh Purvis said. Now, the doctors look to transfer her to Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.

“This could happen at any point this week,” he said.

The Purvis family had a tradition of eating a candlelit dinner on Thanksgiving with Alabama Christmas music playing in the background. It helped them “remember the small everyday things we take for granted.”

This year, they’ll have to spend it without Lynn.

“Life can change in an instant,” Josh Purvis said. “I encourage every member of our wonderful community to take a look around your Thanksgiving table and count your blessings.”

Lynn Purvis was severely injured after being hit by a Ford F-150 pickup truck on Nov. 15. As the driver turned left from Main Street onto First Avenue, he hit her as she was walking across the street from the courthouse to the Moultrie Pawn Shop.

Both had the green light, the Georgia State Patrol said.

The city has since blocked off the last left-side courthouse parking space at the intersection of Main Street and First Avenue in response. A vehicle parked in that spot may have blocked Purvis from the driver’s line of sight.

According to Georgia State Patrol, because of the nature of the incident charges are still pending.

The Purvis family continues to thank the Moultrie-Colquitt County community for their continued support and prayer.

“Prayer changes things,” Josh Purvis said. “Sometimes things happen in this life that we don’t understand and we can’t control. It is so important to stay grounded in your faith when times are great, but also when times are tough.”

He said that anyone wanting to contribute toward medical and recovery expenses can send a check made out to Hopewell Baptist Church with Lynn Purvis on the “for” line.
