MOULTRIE – At Tuesday’s Colquitt County Commissioner’s work meeting, the board provided an update on the status of the new Colquitt County Humane Society Board.

The Humane Society Board recently had its first full meeting with all members of the board present. They discussed the need for an executive director and also amended the current Animal Control Service Agreement to incorporate the use of inmates in the facility. This amendment was approved at the Humane Society board’s meeting.

Currently, there aren’t any inmates assisting in the upkeep of the Humane Society facility. With the new amendment, there reportedly will be at least three to five inmates to help. Their duties would include keeping the facility orderly and helping to tend to the animals’ needs.
