- Colquitt County High senior outfielder Callie Faircloth, a member of the program's first region champions, signed to play college softball at Georgia Military College in Milledgeville. She is the daughter of Clay and Heather Greene and the late John Faircloth.
MOULTRIE – One of Chance Pitts’ “babies” – the senior class that was there in his first season as Colquitt County High head softball coach four years ago – is on her way to college. Callie Faircloth, the outfielder who drove in 14 runs on 19 hits for the Region 1-7A champions and Elite 8 qualifier, signed Tuesday with the Georgia Military College NJCAA program in Milledgeville.
GMC is coached by Ashley Bunn, who has guided the Bulldogs to the top two in the state conference the last four years.
“She has a lot of heart and character,” said Bunn of Faircloth. “We saw her play (last year) and she did a lot of things right.”
“It couldn’t happen to a better girl,” said Pitts. “She is one of the eight seniors I have, and she was an integral part of our success.
“She has an absolute cannon for an arm, and she did an outstanding job in the outfield and at the plate this year. We are so proud of what she’s been able to accomplish.
“It’s special the type of year we had, the seniors we had, and Callie being one of those. She works (hard), whether it’s extra hitting lessons. She is a battler and is going to work through anything.”
Bunn will get Faircloth, who can also play infield, for the 2021 spring season.
