MOULTRIE, Ga. – A police chase involving a stolen pickup truck carried over from Doerun to Moultrie about 10:24 p.m. Monday.
The Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office reported that Doerun police officer Christopher Good pulled over a dark-colored Dodge pickup truck in the area of Sam Sells Road for displaying an improper cardboard tag. He made contact with the female driver and asked her to exit the vehicle. There were two other passengers in the truck, a white male in the back seat and a black female in the front passenger seat. While Good was speaking with the driver, the male jumped into the driver’s seat and fled the stop location, the sheriff’s office said.
Good told the deputy that he left the female driver at the stop location and pursued the vehicle in-bound from there to where it entered Moultrie city limits.
A spike strip was used to deflate the front tire, but the vehicle remained in-bound on 133 North towards the Moultrie city limits. Sheriff’s office Investigator Justin Searcy pursued the vehicle with Good and Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office officer Jerome Burgess following. After catching up to Searcy, Burgess took the lead, where speeds of 80 miles per hour were reached, according to the sheriff’s office report.
The pickup entered Moultrie on Veterans Parkway and eventually turned right on First Avenue Southeast, heading into downtown Moultrie. The driver ran a red light and wound up headed the wrong way on a one-way street as First Avenue crossed First Street Southeast, the sheriff’s office report said.
From there, the pickup was able to pull away from the officers. Officers found it in the parking lot behind the Moultrie Observer building on First Avenue at First Street Northwest, but the driver and passenger had already fled the scene.
Burgess and Deputy Terry Gibson searched the vehicle while other units arrived to search the area for the driver and passenger, the sheriff’s office said.
Inside the vehicle, men’s and women’s clothing was found, along with numerous identifications, prescription medication bottles and operable cell phones.
Officers believe they’ve identified the male suspect, and his driver’s license is suspended.
The vehicle was reportedly stolen out of Plantation, Florida. Law enforcement there has been notified of the vehicle recovery. The subjects have not yet been found.
