MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Moultrie native running for a seat on the state Court of Appeals will hold a meet-and-greet Friday night.
Tabitha Ponder Beckford, now an attorney in Atlanta, will greet supporters at the event, 5-6:30 p.m. at Blue Sky Grill on First Street in downtown Moultrie.
Beckford, daughter of the Rev. C.L. Ponder Jr. and Shirley Ponder, is one of six candidates — all women — seeking the seat being vacated by Judge Sara Doyle, who is running for a seat on the state Supreme Court.
In addition to Beckford, candidates for the Appeals Court seat are:
• Judy Farrington Aust, a mediator and former Goodman McGuffey partner.
• Audrey Berland, a business litigator with Ichter Davis.
• Kimberly Bourroughs Debrow, a DeKalb County senior assistant district attorney who specializes in elder abuse and financial exploitation cases.
• Nicole Leet, an insurance defense litigator with Gray, Rust, St. Amand, Moffett & Brieske in Atlanta.
• Lyndsey Rudder, a Fulton County district attorney and appellate specialist.
Meanwhile, Doyle has acquired three challengers in her bid for the Supreme Court seat. She’s opposed by former U.S. Rep. John Barrow, former state Rep. Beth Beskin and Alcovy Circuit Superior Court Judge Horace Johnson Jr.
Both of the judgeships will be decided in nonpartisan elections on May 19, 2020.
