MOULTRIE, Ga. — The Serenity House opened its doors May 13 of 2002 after the death of beloved Colquitt County native Kim Nunez. On Oct. 24, it will honor other fallen community members with a candlelight vigil.
“The candlelight vigil is done every year to remember the people in Colquitt County who have lost their lives to domestic violence,” said Haley Clark, executive director of Serenity House. According to Clark there have been a total of 19 deaths since the House opened its doors in 2002.
“We want people to come out and help us honor fallen loved ones,” said Clark. “We’ll have light refreshments after the event, as well as a candle lighting ceremony and a speaker. It lasts about an hour.”
The speaker will be a previous resident of Serenity House, according to Clark. “Every year, we ask a former resident to come out and share her story, and this year will be no different.”
Candles will be provided by Serenity House. The event will begin at 7 p.m. and will be held at the Courthouse Annex in the Commissioner’s Board Room.
