Ga. Country Music Hall of Fame extends nominations

MOULTRIE, Ga. — Shirley Maule, head of the Georgia Country Music Hall of Fame, has been accepting nominations for more than two months. She might say it’s been fruitful, but it’s not enough for her to start setting up the hall’s first induction ceremony.
In the Observer’s first story on the matter, Maule had seven nominations as of July 28. She set the deadline for Sept. 30 and expected at least 53 more to come in. Now, she has a little over 20.
“I knew it was going to be a tough job getting these people down here to nominate anybody,” she said. “I just [don’t] have enough nominations yet.”
And so, she’s changed the deadline to Oct. 27. With the change in deadline, she’s also changing her expectations.
Maule’s original plan was to induct around 45 musicians attempting to mimic Atlanta’s Country Music Hall of Fame. Because nominations have come in slower, Maule said she’s taking it down a notch.
“I was talking to a bluegrass musician up in Atlanta that very familiar with [its] hall of fame,” she said. “He suggested we only nominate 20, so I’ll have to check with the directors that I have.”
The directors, or rather the board of nominations, is comprised of five well-known musicians from the South and Maule herself. Included in it are musicians Jerry Newsman, Jerry Armstrong, Anne Komacko, Ron Seacrist and Atlanta Country Music Hall of Famer Randall C. McClellan.
Once the final nomination deadline hits, the board will vote on who’s inducted.
Maule has no date on when the induction ceremony will be but hopes to be able to plan it for either late November or December.
To nominate a musician, write a short bio on them and detail their music career. Once done, mail it to Georgia Country Music Hall of Fame, 2099 Georgia Hwy. 133 South, Moultrie, GA 31788.
