MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Moultrie woman was killed Thursday night as she walked her dog across Georgia Highway 133. Georgia State Patrol handled the case.

The 34-year-old woman, who was homeless according to State Trooper Frank Gay, started her way across the street between the end of the trailer park and Touchdown Sports Bar.

Gay said the woman was crossing north to south on GA-133 and had almost gotten across the street. She travelled to the southernmost lane when a husband and wife traveling toward Berlin hit her.

The time was 8:10 p.m. on Oct. 3, said Thomasville GSP Post Commander John Vanlandingham.

“They didn’t see this person with it being dark,” he said. “The lady struck the hood [but] we don’t suspect speed — excessive speed — was a contributing factor as to why it occurred.”

The dog was hit as well and was injured. Gay said he called the Humane Society to give it care. He then checked the couple for injuries but found them to be fine apart from shock.

Since the husband was driving, he was taken to the hospital for a voluntary blood draw. Vanlandingham said the driver isn’t suspected of anything, but they need to cover all bases.

“I don’t suspect alcohol use on the driver, but that’s not to say something might come back in their system,” Vanlandingham said. “We just don’t know yet, but [GSP] didn’t see anything to indicate impairment on his part.”

The dead woman’s blood was also drawn. Troopers are currently awaiting lab results to return.

The GSP didn’t want to release the name of the woman since they haven’t yet contacted her family.
