MOULTRIE, Ga. — At the Tuesday County Commissioners meeting, the board voted on the consent agenda for the resurfacing of roads under the Transportation Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST).

According to Stan Kirksey, Colquitt County Roads and Bridges superintendent, the tax has already brought in around $9.5 million in revenue since its formation in April. There are five more roads to be resurfaced, which is the process of laying a new layer of asphalt over the old road. Those roads are: Chapman Road, Dunn Road, James Buckner Road, R.L. Sears Road and Sumner Road.

“We’ll most likely start with Sumner Road and Dunn Road soon and hopefully be done by the end of the year” said Kirksey during the meeting. “We’ll start with the other roads by the first of the 2020 year.”

The resurfacing should take a month or six weeks to complete.

Also at Tuesday’s commission meeting, the board welcomed Savannah Carter, the county Extension Service’s new 4-H youth agent. She recently joined the Colquitt County Extension Office after working with 4-H in Long County for four years.

The commission also announced that applications are being accepted for new members for the Colquitt County Humane Society Board. All applicants must complete a general board application by 4 p.m. Oct. 11 and have no prior history or affiliation with the society. The application can be found on the official Colquitt County website.
