MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — Two Milledgeville men have been arrested in connection with the murder of a man in Fort Myers, Fla., local authorities say.

Several detectives with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office spent three or four days last week assisting detectives with the Ft. Myers Police Department looking for the suspects in Milledgeville and Baldwin County, Baldwin County Sheriff Bill Massee told The Union-Recorder during an interview Monday morning.

Massee identified the suspects as Wayne Maynard Taylor, of the 1100 block of South Warren Street; and Troymel Deandre Barnes, of the 100 block of Wright Street.

The two men were taken into custody without incident at two different locations. Massee said one of them was arrested at a residence on Bryant Street in Milledgeville, while the other suspect was arrested at the JAG probation office off Roberson Mill Road in Milledgeville.

Massee said his detectives, along with several of his deputies, assisted Ft. Myers police detectives, as did officers and detectives from the Milledgeville Police Department, and the U.S. Marshal’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force.

“Everybody did a really good job of working together in an effort to make these arrests,” Massee said. “We had detectives and intelligence people with us from the Ft. Myers Police Department. Four of them stayed with us three days last week.”

The sheriff said police in Fort Myers were involved in a homicide investigation.

“They consider it a drug-related, robbery and homicide case,” Massee told the newspaper. “They sent our people pictures and video of people from convenience stores. They got a lead that the people were from the Baldwin County area. Our people got with them and we were able to identify the people from the camera of one of the stores in Ft. Myers.”

Taylor and Barnes initially were arrested on a hold for the Fort Myers Police Department, and arrest of a person charged with a crime in another state, according to jail documents.

They have now been charged with second degree murder and robbery with a firearm, according to Ft. Myers Police Chief Derrick Diggs at a press conference Monday afternoon in Ft. Myers. 

The suspects are accused in the Sept. 22 shooting death of 23-year-old Eric Galvin at Village Creek Apartments in Ft. Myers.

“We served the murder warrants on these two men last Thursday,” Massee said.

The sheriff said Taylor and Barnes were taken to the Baldwin County Law Enforcement Center, but since have been transferred to another facility.

Massee said local authorities were awaiting an extradition warrant from the governor of Florida in order to turn the suspects over to Florida authorities. An extradition hearing will have to be held in order for that to happen. It was not immediately known whether the suspects plan to fight extradition to Florida.
