MGs compete at Tumblin in the Roses in Thomasville

MOULTRIE — This past weekend, the MG’s bronze, silver, Gold and levels 4-5 competed in the annual Tumblin in the Roses meet in Thomasville.

For many, this was their very first ever gymnastics meet. Many gymnasts competed at a new level and there were many scores to be proud of.

The level 4’s and 5’s competed in the first session of the day.

Sam Oler was the top scoring level 4. She was the beam champion of her group with a 9.0. She also placed 2nd on floor with a 9.275 and 3rd on bars with an 8.1. She placed 3rd on vault and counted for team score on all 4 events. Oler placed 3rd overall with an AA score of 34.125.

Lily Bass placed 2nd on floor with an 8.625. She placed 3rd on both vault and bars and finished 4th on beam. Bass placed 3rd in the AA in the Jr A age group.

Kaleigh Allen placed 2nd on beam with an 8.675 and 2nd on floor with an 8.65. Her AA placed her 3rd in the Sr A group.

Sage Almond placed 3rd on floor with an 8.25 and 3rd on bars. She placed 3rd overall.

Jayden Williams was the runner up on vault and placed 4th on floor. She finished overall in her age group in 4th place.

Anna Kate Hightower, level 5, scored an 8.35 on vault for 2nd place. She placed 1st on vault and 4th on beam and floor. She finished 3rd overall.

The level 4 team finished 2nd place.

“For the first meet of the season, they performed very well. We will now work on being better prepared for the next meet,” Said Coach Dawn Harvell.

The Xcel teams competed in the next session. The Bronze team consisted of all new members.

Allene Fleetwood was the highest scoring bronze. She was the floor champion with a 9.15 and vault champion with a 9.3. She also placed 2nd on beam with a 9.175 and 3rd on bars with an 8.75. Fleetwood contributed to the team score on 3 events and was awarded the Snow Globe for having the highest AA of all bronze competitors with a score of 36.375.

Ruby Folsom finished in 1st place in all 4 events. She counted for team score on vault with an 8.8, bars (8.95), and beam (9.225). She scored an 8.85 on floor and finished the meet as the AA champ in the Sr group with a score of 35.825.

Joselyn Juarez placed 2nd on floor with team contributing score of 9.1. She also placed 3rd on beam with a 9.125 and 2nd on bars with an 8.85. Juarez placed 3rd on vault with an 8.65 and finished in the runner up spot with a 35.725 AA.

Kenya Poblete placed 2nd on vault with a 9.05 and 3rd on floor with an 8.9. Both of these scores counted towards the team. She also placed 4th on bars and beam. On bars, she scored an 8.75 and on beam she scored an 8.9. Poblete had an AA score of 35.60 for 3rd place.

Nataleigh Bryant was the bars and beam champion in the Jr age group. She scored a 9.225 on beam and a 9.05 on bars. She also scored an 8.9 on floor and an 8.3 on vault. Bryant finished in 4th place with a 35.475.

Akalah Edwards placed 2nd on all 4 events. She scored an 8.9 on bars and an 8.8 on vault. She also scored an 8.875 on beam and an 8.75 on floor. Edwards finished 2nd place with a 35.325.

Madalynn Spillers placed 5th on floor with an 8.8, beam (8.725) and bars (8.65). She also placed 4th on vault with an 8.6 and placed 5th in the AA with a 34.775 AA.

The Bronze team took 1st place with a team score of 108.825.

“This is a very young group of athletes that performed very strong at their first meet,” said Gymnastics Director Kambria Blakely.

“This group is showing a lot of potential at such a young age. I am excited to see how their season will unfold.”

The silver team placed 1st with a team score of 108.625.

Kenna Edge led the silver team. She was the vault, beam, and floor champion. On floor, she scored a 9.275, on beam, she scored a 9.175, and on vault, she scored a 9.1. She added a 3rd place finish on bars with an 8.35 and was awarded the Snow Globe for having the highest AA score of the entire silver session with a score of 35.90.

Carley Jackson placed 1st on beam with a 9.125 and 1st on vault with an 8.95. She also placed 1st on floor with an 8.85 and 2nd on bars with an 8.6. Jackson was the AA champ in the Jr B group with a 35.525.

Lily Warren placed 1st on bars with a 9.1 and 2nd on beam with a 9.1. She also placed 2nd on vault with an 8.85 and took 3rd place on floor with an 8.45. Her AA for the meet was a 35.50 for the runner up spot in the Jr B group.

Lucy Watson was the bars champ with an 8.85, which counted for the team score. She also placed 2nd on vault with an 8.7 and 2nd on floor with an 8.65. Watson scored an 8.775 on beam and took the runner up spot in the AA with a 35.025.

Eliza Jane Reagan was the bars, beam, and floor champ in the Jr A group. On floor she scored a 9.25, on beam, 8.95, and on bars, 8.5. She also was the runner up on vault with an 8.15 and finished as the AA champ with an AA score of 34.85.

Savannah Tyson was the bars champ with a score of 8.7, which counted for the team score. She also placed 2nd on beam with a 9.075 and 2nd on floor with an 8.35. Tyson added a 3rd place finish on vault with an 8.4 and took 1st place in her age group with a 34.525 AA.

Joslyn Merritt placed 2nd on bars with an 8.65 and 4th on beam with an 8.625. She added a 3rd place finish on vault with an 8.5 and 3rd on floor with an 8.35. Her AA for the meet was a 34.125 for 3rd place.

MaKenzie Murphy was the vault champ with a 9.1. Her 9.1 counted for the team score. She also placed 2nd on beam with an 8.925 and 3rd on floor with an 8.05. Murphy finished 2nd overall with a score of 33.775 AA.

Natalie McDaniel counted for team score on floor with a score of 8.9 and placed 3rd on beam with an 8.45. She also placed 3rd on vault with an 8.1 and finished 3rd overall with a 33.05 AA.

Caselyn Allen was the runner up on beam with an 8.825 and 3rd on vault with an 8.6. her AA for the meet was a 33.125.

Raley Merritt placed 1st on floor with an 8.8 and 3rd on beam with an 8.725. She also placed 4th on vault with an 8.25 and finished the meet in 3rd place with a 32.975 AA.

Malerie Land placed 2nd on vault with an 8.6 and 4th on beam with an 8.1. She also placed 4th on floor with an 8.0 and had a 32.55 AA for 4th place.

“I thought the girls did very well at their first meet,” said Coach Becky Reagan. “Beam was their strong event at this meet. We have some work to do to improve but their overall performance was acceptable.”

The Gold team finished 1st with a team score of 102.10.

Jaelyn Wier was the highest scoring Gold and counted for team score on 3 events. She placed 1st on bars with an 8.35 and 2nd on floor with an 8.725. She also scored an 8.55 for 3rd place and was the AA champ with a 33.525.

Layla Dees placed 2nd on beam with an 8.8, which contributed to the team score and 3rd on floor with an 8.5. Her AA for the meet was a 32.40 for 2nd place.

Kayla Scroggins was the runner up on floor with a 9.0 and 3rd on beam with an 8.3. She also scored an 8.3 on vault and finished in 3rd place of the Sr group with 32.35.

Aubrey Kelly was the floor champ with an 8.75 and placed 4th on vault with an 8.55. She placed 3rd in the AA with a score of 32.35.

Leah Shaw counted for team score on vault with a score of 8.85, which also placed her 1st on that event. She also placed 4th on floor with an 8.5 and finished in 4th place with a 32.025.

Rynn Kinsey was the floor champ with a 9.2 for 1st place and 1st on beam with an 8.5. She placed 3rd overall in her age group.

Rebecca Ward took 2nd place on vault with an 8.45 and 5th on floor with an 8.15. She finished the meet in 4th place.

MaKinley Morris was the vault champ with an 8.7 and placed 3rd on floor with an 8.7. She placed 4th in the AA.

Calie Tipton placed 4th on floor and vault. On floor, she scored an 8.4 and on vault, she scored an 8.05.

Karleigh Heard took the runner up spot on vault with an 8.9 and placed 2nd on beam with an 8.15.

“The Golds did a great job with competing their new floor routines. We have some work to do on bars in order to receive full credit on all their skills but for the most part they had a pretty good start to the season,” said Coach Timia Fowler.
