A highlight to William Paul Ullman, a Moultrie YMCA success story!  A little background on this spirited and determined young man…

At the age of ten, he was hit by a drunk driver while riding his bicycle, which left him physically limited.  William fought back and in high school, he played baseball and #82 on the High School football team in Waldorf, Maryland as a wide receiver.

When William was 30 years old, he moved here to Moultrie. When he started coming to the Y about two and a half months ago, he couldn’t lift his right leg and he could not walk on his own. Here at the Y, he utilizes various equipment, such as the stepper, bike, and leg press for strengthening. William finds the YMCA to be a friendly place to workout and get lots of encouragement and motivation from the Wellness coaches and Director Kristin Brady. He works up a sweat and works out hard! One of his biggest fans is his mother, Mary.

William has big goals, one of which is to be able to walk on his own and surprise his big brother. His big brother is in the Air Force and is scheduled to come home in December.

In the short time that William has been coming to the Y, he can now move his walker ahead and walk to it and stand and balance not holding onto his walker!

When William is not at the Y, he likes listening to country music and going to concerts, doing word searches, and detailed coloring pictures. When you see William here at the Y or out and about in the community, give him a high five!  Get to know William Ullman. He has a big smile, a big heart, and a whole lot of determination to reach his goals and push through.
