MACON, Ga. — A Moultrie native died Tuesday, more than a week after falling from a bridge under construction in Macon.
Jason Smith Searcy, 44, of Ivey, Ga., was a construction worker for C.W. Matthews Company, according to his obituary and a report by the Macon Telegraph. The company was building a new bridge near Interstate 16 and Spring Street.
The Telegraph, citing a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office incident report, said Searcy fell into a ravine that is below the bridge being built near the I-16 eastbound off ramp.
One of Searcy’s co-workers told deputies that Searcy was carrying a piece of wood when a piece of metal decking he was walking on “gave way,” the report said. Searcy’s hard hat and a piece of metal decking were lying about five feet from his body, the report said.
Searcy was born Nov. 26, 1974, in Moultrie, son of Linda Smith of Moultrie and the late Larry Searcy. In addition to his mother, three siblings and one of his three children still live here, according to his obituary.
His funeral is planned for Saturday. See Page 4A for full obituary information.
