- Lexy Moore is the Colquitt County 50th Regiment Band’s head drum major.
MOULTRIE, Ga. – Colquitt County High Director of Bands Liz Savage will have a better idea of how prepared the 50th Regiment is for the competition season after it performs Saturday in Thomasville.
The Georgia Music Educators Association’s District 2 Jamboree will be held at Thomasville High School’s Veterans Memorial Stadium on East Jackson Street.
“This event is where bands from our GMEA district come together to perform for a panel of adjudicators as we prepare to enter competition season,” Savage said.
The judges are Michael Thomas from Cairo, Michael E. Thomas of Lowndes, Woody Leonard of Tifton and Zach Williams of Waycross.
“These judges will give us an idea of what we need to work on over the next few weeks as we prepare for the Battle on the Border on Oct. 19 at Lowndes High School and The Sound of Gold on Oct. 26 at Ware County High School,” Savage said.
“Our students have worked very hard to get our whole show on the field for this event. Although we lack about 1.5 minutes of color guard choreography in the last song, we are well ahead of most years’ preparations for this event.”
Savage said she expects to have all music, drill and choreography on the field for the performance at the Colquitt County Homecoming game on Oct. 4.
She said that the 50th Regiment will perform only a portion of its show tonight on the Tom White Field at Mack Tharpe Stadium so the Warner Robins High School band can perform as much as it can.
The 50th Regiment will perform at 7:20 p.m. on Saturday in Thomasville. Tickets are $10 at the gate.
“We’d love to have a cheering section!” Savage said.
