TIFTON — September will be a month of music downtown with a Battle of the Bands concert each Thursday of the month.
“This will be something fun and different for people to come together,” said Chandler Day, marketing and public relations manager for the City of Tifton.
Day said that there will be a variety of different music styles to enjoy.
Downtown Development Authority Director Abbey McLaren said that each Thursday evening event has been declared a festival, so attendees can purchase drinks and take them to the different stages as long as they have the requisite wristband and festival cup. These may be purchased from 41 and Main, Don Julio’s, Fresco Italiano, Terminal South, The Local at The Lankford and Tift Tap House.
Six local bands will be duking it out to be declared the best by a committee of judges and win a cash prize.
The first battle is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, with Justin Spivey playing at the Tifton Gardens Stage and Kuntry Mathis playing at the Gateway Park Stage.
Jason Wallis on the Tifton Gardens Stage will be up against Josh Morrison on the Gateway Park State starting at 7 p.m. on Sept. 12.
On Sept. 19, the Mood Doctors on the Tifton Gardens Stage will be going head to head against 3 Piece, No Sides at the Gateway Park Stage starting a 7 p.m.
Each Thursday’s winner will come back on Sept. 26 for the final showdown at 7 p.m., where an overall winner will be determined.
The event, sponsored by Tifton Main Street in partnership with City of Tifton, Tifton Merchants Association and Downtown Development Authority, is free and open to the public.
