DALTON, Ga. — A man was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Thursday after pleading guilty to kidnapping, false imprisonment and other charges. Another man said Christopher Tyson Rollins shot him in the left hip and right calf, held him against his will and burned a tattoo into his right forearm with a heated iron rod.
Rollins, 35, pleaded guilty in two separate cases before Whitfield County Superior Court Judge William T. Boyett.
Rollins pleaded guilty to kidnapping, false imprisonment, possession of meth, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon for the July 2018 incident. His sentence included several concurrent sentences with a total of 20 years in prison and five years on probation upon his release. He was also ordered to have no contact with the victim.
Kristen Kaye Weaver, who is listed as a co-defendant, had her case continued until Sept. 19 with a trial date of Sept. 23. She faces charges of kidnapping, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, possession of meth, five counts of possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. She is being held at the Whitfield County jail.
Rollins also pleaded guilty to possession of meth with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime, also dating to 2018.
According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, on July 3, 2018, at approximately 3:30 a.m. officers were sent to Hamilton Medical Center concerning a “gunshot victim.”
A man said that on July 2 he went to the house of a girl he had “recently met.” He said a man was waiting in the hallway of the house and struck him in the back of the head with the butt of a shotgun and “knocked him to the ground.” He said the man then pointed the shotgun in his face, but he pushed it away. The man then pulled out a .32-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver and shot him in the left hip.
He said he “got up and sat on the couch.” He said the man then “used a torch to heat up an iron rod and burn a tattoo on his right forearm … ” He said the man shot him in the right calf with the revolver. The man then “zip-tied his hands together and tied them with a bandana.” He said the man told him, “If I don’t kill you tonight I’ll get your family.”
He said while the man was on the phone he “saw his opportunity to leave.”
He said at about 3:07 a.m. on July 3 he called his mother and asked her to pick him up because his 2004 Chevrolet truck had been stolen from the girl’s house. She picked him up on Highway 41. She stated that the man is “diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic.”
“I did observe wounds on (the victim) consistent with what he was stating,” the deputy wrote in the report.
Sheriff Scott Chitwood said in a press release that the incidents, which included torture, occurred at 210 N. Center St. in Tunnel Hill. He said based on information provided by the man, a search warrant was executed at the residence. Evidence was found that supported the man’s story, the sheriff said.
