MOULTRIE, Ga. — Windstream, a provider of advanced network communications and technology solutions, recently announced the completion of the first phase of a fiber network expansion in the city, wiring over 4,500 addresses for ultra-fast 1-gig Internet service.
The buildout is the result of over $780,000 invested in the network by the company in Moultrie and its immediate surroundings. By the end of this year, the final phase will be finished, delivering an additional 5,700 addresses that will qualify for 1-gig Internet connections. Windstream estimates spending over $800,000 for this second phase, bringing the total investment in Moultrie to more than $1.5 million by the end of the year.
“Windstream’s investment in Moultrie as a ‘Gig City’ is exactly the kind of private investment that will grow access to healthcare, improve education, enhance economic development and definitely improve quality of life,” said state Rep. Sam Watson, co-chair of the House Rural Development Council.
