MOULTRIE, Ga – Ameris Bank Market President Tim Powers recently announced that Allen McCorvey has been promoted to vice president agricultural business banker.

McCorvey will focus primarily on financing farm and agri-business operating loans as well as financing agricultural real estate and equipment, according to a press release from the Moultrie-based bank.

McCorvey joined Ameris Bank in 2014 as an agri-business banker and agricultural loan officer.

He started his career in agriculture with Gold Kist Precision Farming Division, which later became Southern States Cooperative. His team became the first to bring infant GPS/GIS technologies to the forefront of Southeastern Ag Retail Markets.

McCorvey then became a regional GIS specialist and a leading precision agricultural consultant of the time. The small team installed and operated the first cotton yield monitor in South America in a remote area of Central Bolivia in May of 1998.

In 2002, McCorvey accepted a position with the University of Georgia’s National Center for Peanut Competitiveness as a research coordinator whose primary responsibility was to develop, maintain, and analyze the center’s 22 United States Representative Peanut Farms, spanning from Virginia to New Mexico. The database has been primarily utilized in Federal Farm Policy debates since 2002.

“Allen’s background and expertise in agribusiness has made him an integral team member and well-known leader in the industry,” said Powers. “His diversified real-life experiences across many facets of the AG Industry enables him to share a unique perspective of today’s agricultural environment.”

McCorvey is very active within the local community and has been elected to the Moultrie/Colquitt County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, where he has served as the chamber’s chairman of the agriculture and rural services committee since January of 2016. He is a graduate of Leadership Colquitt County and is participating in the 2019-2020 Class of the UGA Archway High Potential Leaders Program for Colquitt County.

“Ameris Bank has given me the opportunity to further enhance my agricultural and lending skills to better serve the needs of the agricultural community here in Colquitt County and surrounding counties,” McCorvey said. “The financial knowledge I have gained and passed along to my customers has also helped me manage and preserve my own family’s farm that I now own and am responsible for maintaining.”

McCorvey earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural and Applied Economics from the University of Georgia.

He lives on the farm where he was raised in Worth County with his wife Chesley and their son, Jackson. McCorvey enjoys growing fruits, vegetables and herbs in his garden, and cooking for his family and friends. He also loves to cheer on the Dawgs on fall Saturday afternoons.
