THOMASVILLE — Thomas County officials are shooting for a late summer 2020 shooting range completion, a county commissioner said.
At a Tuesday commission purchasing committee meeting, committee members approved a total shooting range expenditure of $367,962.40 for air conditioning, insulation, sheetrock, asphalt roof shingles, painting and acoustical roof and floor panels.
All bids approved by the committee were the lowest submitted, said Commissioner Ken Hickey, committee chairman.
The expenditure will be presented for consideration by the full commission at a 9 a.m. Tuesday meeting at the historic Thomas County Courthouse.
“This will get the majority of it done,” Hickey said.
Later expenditures will be for irrigation, landscaping, digital targets and a security system.
The $1.8 million project off County Farm Road is funded by a Georgia Department of Natural Resources grant of about $1.4 million and $500,000 from county government.
Hickey said the county’s share of the expense is being provided from impact fee revenue and in-kind services.
Hickey praised the county public works department, which is overseeing the project.
“They have put in numerous hours to be sure everything is done correctly and staying within budget while tending to other county projects,” he said.
