MOULTRIE, Ga. — A local dirt track racer reported the loss of thousands of dollars of car parts during a burglary last weekend.

Jerry Allegood, 400 block Cherokee Drive, Norman Park, told Colquitt County sheriff’s deputies July 14 that his shop in the 300 block of Cherokee Drive was broken into. The lock was cut off the door.

Missing were an engine valued at $20,000, two go-kart engines, six engine heads, car shocks and miscellaneous engine parts. In all, the missing items were valued at more than $27,500.

Other thefts

Sheriff’s Office

• Euastoli Rivera, 7800 block Old Adel Road, told deputies July 17 that someone stole 25 chickens from her residence over the previous night. The chickens were valued at $375.

Moultrie Police

• Waffle House, 490 Veterans Parkway North, reported the theft of a cell phone July 17. A company official said the phone had been left by a customer and employees had placed it behind the counter in case he came back for it. The security video later showed an employee retrieving the phone and putting it in her pocket. At the time of the report, police had been unable to contact the owner of the phone or the employee on the video.

• Brakeira Evette Linton, 3100 block Veterans Parkway South, reported July 16 that a person she knows stole her cell phone, valued at $200. Other items valued at $15 were also taken.

• The license plate from a Variety Canteen box truck was reported stolen July 16. The tag was last seen about a week prior.

Recovered property

• A trailer that was stolen in Brooks County was recovered in Colquitt County July 15.

Steve Wood, of Ty Ty, owner of Deep South Construction, reported to Brooks County law enforcement that a 7-by-16-foot trailer, an air compressor and other tools were taken from a job site in Enigma July 12-14. Altogether, the items were valued at $9,500.

Wood posted about his loss on social media. A friend saw the post and later saw a trailer matching Wood’s description. He told Wood, and on July 15, Brooks County investigators joined Colquitt County deputies in the 300 block of Jasmine Lane, Omega.

A trailer was found behind the house. The logo and lettering had been stripped off, but the reporting deputy said the outline of “Deep South Construction” was still visible.

The missing air compressor was found in the same block.

While the deputy’s report did list a suspect, it did not indicate whether he’d been charged. No booking report with the suspect’s name has been released by the Colquitt County Jail.
