THOMASVILLE — A Meigs man faces a slew of charges following an incident early Friday morning that sent his estranged wife and her stepson to the hospital.

Jared Blake Stanley was arrested around 2 a.m. Friday and is being charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of aggravated stalking, and one count of aggravated battery.

According to the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called out to an Inman Lane address. There, they found two victims had been struck with a baseball bat, Lt. Tim Watkins said.

Stanley struck his estranged wife and her 14-year-old stepson with the bat, Watkins said. The child was struck in the face and suffered a broken nose and a fractured skull, and the woman was hit in the back of the head, suffering a laceration.

The child had grabbed the bat and was attempting to protect his mother when Stanley wrestled it away from him, Watkins said.

Stanley had been ordered to stay away from his wife and not have any contact with her, Watkins said. His aggravated stalking charge stems from his appearance at the house.

The woman’s relatives arrived and deputies eventually found Stanley in a nearby cemetery, being detained by one of the relatives.

Stanley was booked into the Thomas County Jail and because of the aggravated stalking charge, bond likely will be denied, Watkins said.

The woman and her son were treated and released.
