“We do have a balanced budget proposed in front of us, which we are very, very fortunate to have,” said Bill Slaughter, Lowndes County Commission chairman, in a previous meeting when the budget was originally proposed.

A public hearing was held June 11 to discuss the budget before moving it to be approved at the upcoming Lowndes County Commission meeting.

The Lowndes County Commission is also scheduled to review and vote on a renewed annual contract with Valdosta State Prison and the Georgia Department of Corrections.

The $39,500 contract is assigned to the engineering department for storm water runoff and the public works department for maintaining more than 5,000 easements, according to county documents.

The contract is set for approval during the meeting, which starts 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 25.

Commissioners will meet at the Lowndes County Judicial Complex, 327 N. Ashley St.
